We already have a pretty good idea as to what the new Mercedes-Benz A Class will look like thanks to the inadvertent sighting of an undisguised version during an official photo shoot in the Canary Islands.
Now we have our first look at the interior, with Mercedes-Benz releasing
these two shots in the lead up to the car’s world debut in just a few
weeks at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
Continuing the retro-theme we’ve seen implemented in most recent Mercedes models, including the recently revealed B Class and 2013 SL Class,
the new A Class’ interior sports some round air-conditioner vents with
an aerospace-inspired crosshair design, as well as plenty of tech
features.
The latter includes a round COMAND dial and a large centrally-mounted LCD touch-screen display.
The new A Class will also debut some innovative connectivity technology.
Mercedes-Benz is focused on linking smartphones with the automobile and
ensuring that such electronic assistants will in future be fully linked
into the car's infotainment system.
First off the blocks is full Apple iPhone compatibility, which Mercedes
engineers have now integrated comprehensively into the user experience
of the new A Class. Thanks to a new "Digital DriveStyle App", developed
in-house, together with the “Drive Kit Plus” for the iPhone, drivers
will be able to access all the key content of their phone using the
vehicle’s controls.
But that’s not all as Mercedes’ new A Class will be able to work with
Apple’s latest Siri voice-activation system. This should allow natural
speech input, without the need for specific commands, to send messages,
select music tracks and check the weather forecast or stock prices, as
well as to make appointments. All the iPhone integration functions can
be used even with the entry-level Audio 20 system.
