The Japanese 2 wheeler giant, Honda 2 Wheelers has announced its
plans of launching a new motorcycle in the Indian 2 wheeler market which
will go into direct competition with the other motorcycle manufacturers
present in India namely, Bajaj, KTM, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Hero
Motocorp. The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese manufacfurer, Honda
Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has announced that the new
motorcycle will be priced close to Rs. 1.15
lakhs (most probably ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price bracket, it
will make it a direct rival to the newly launched KTM Duke 200 at Rs. 1.17 lakhs and the “uber cool” Yamaha R15 V2.0 at Rs. 1.07 lakhs.
You might have very well guessed by now which Honda motorcycle
we are talking about. Yes, it is none other than the Honda CBR150R.
Showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo that took place at Pragati Maidan,
Delhi last month it surely caught everyone by a pleasant surprise. The
Honda CBR150R looks very similar to its big brother, the Honda CBR250R
from the front and the back. The CBR150R however gets the smaller Honda
150cc displacement engine. However, in terms of power and torque it will
be definitely outperforming the current 150cc powered Honda bikes like
the CB Unicorn and CB Unicorn Dazzler.
Honda after the split up of its long term JV with Hero is planning to
get more aggressive in the market with the launch of new products
across different segments. Honda Motorcycles recently overtook TVS
Motors to become the 3rd largest motorcycle manufacturer in India behind
Hero and Bajaj. With the CBR150R, Honda aims to sell about 3500 units
per month thus inching it closer to the top 2. Honda has also announced
it is going to launch the Dream Yuga, a 110cc commuter motorcycle in the
Indian market this year.
